A significant number of Moldovan companies joined Global Pact

The National Network of the Global Pact includes at present 17 companies from Moldova, number considered significant for Moldova, as the countries in the region, which have launched their networks several years ago, do not have a large number of companies which would implement the principles of the Pact. By signing the document, the companies commit themselves to adopting10 principles of the pact on human rights, labour standards, environment and fight against corruption. President of the National network and of “Bioprotect” Company Valeriu Strelet told a news conference on Thursday, June 19, on the occasion of Moldova’s participation in the second summit of Global Pact members held in Geneva, that although the networks of the Global Pact work well in developed countries, in the case of Moldova the call to the other business colleagues is that “by respecting the principles of the Pact in a society with serious problems will contribute to overcoming them easier”. Valeriu Strelet mentioned that the obligation to respect the principles of the Global Pact means for the heads of companies respecting the national and international legislation. In light of the fact that the network was launched half a year ago, its present members consider there are more persons thinking like them but they did not make their plans official yet by joining the network. One of the important ideas presented during the Summit was that the governments where Pact’s networks were created or are being created at the moment should be interested in their existence, because the goals of the initiative are the same as the majority goals of the Governments, Strelet mentioned. Although the process of joining the Global Pact includes voluntary expenses for the companies, the head of Corporative Communication Department of “Moldcell” Company, Rodica Verberiuc says these expenses are rather investments, which are absolutely necessary when a company wants to be successful, especially in what concerns the quality. The companies which created the local network for the promotion of social-corporative responsibility in November last year are: “Rompetrol”, “Bioprotect”, “Moldcell”, “Acorex”, “Tatrabis” and “Arhiconi Grup”, “Milestii Mici”, “Sun Communications”, “Covoare Ungheni”, “Voxtel”, “Moldova Agroindbank”, “Endava”, “Union Fenosa”, Efes Vitanta Moldova. The Global Pact was launched in July 2000 by the former UN Secretary Kofi Anan. It is an instrument aiming at strengthening the relations between civil society, public and private sectors with a view to supporting economic and administrative growth of the states. The Pact is a voluntary initiative which determines the corporations to implement internationally recognised fundamental values, stimulates development and promotes innovative solutions and partnership. At present the Global Pact includes about 4 thousand companies worldwide, and there are Global Pact networks in 40 countries of the world.
