After dying, a person infected with COVID-19 does not represent a threat from epidemiological viewpoint. The infection danger resides in the funeral ceremony as this involves many people, with services held at home and at the church and with commemoration meals, stated the director of the National Public Health Agency Nicolae Furtună.
“There is an imminent risk of the infection being passed on from an infected or asymptomatic person to a healthy person,” Nicolae Furtună said in a press briefing, being quoted by IPN.
The director recommended abandoning the traditional funerals in times of a pandemic and holding only a service at the cemetery, by observing the social distancing and personal hygiene measures.
“Help the doctors help you overcome this crisis situation. Remain at home and follow all the recommendations issued by the authorities.”
Of the 263 persons who caught the novel coronavirus in Moldova, 13 recovered, while two women died. One of the women was from Hâncești, while the second, who worked as a physician, was from Chisinau.
