A series of the polling places established for voters from the left bank of the Nistru, Bender municipality and some of the localities of Căușeni district for the February 24 parliamentary elections will be moved to other localities. A decision to this effect was taken by the Central Election Commission in its February 12 meeting, IPN reports.

CEC president Alina Russu said the changes were proposed after the General Police Inspectorate and the Reintegration Office recommended reducing the number of polling places located in the Security Zine and moving these to areas controlled by the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova. At the previous elections of the last few years, the unconstitutional authorities blocked participation in elections by different methods.

According to Alina Russu, the number of polling places remains the same for constituencies No. 47 and 48 and some of the polling places will be relocated in a move to guarantee the citizen’s right to vote.

CEC member Iurie Ciocan said the amendment proposals were formulated as a result of long-term discussions. The mayor’s offices of the localities to which the polling places will be moved already identified precincts and the public order maintenance forces can ensure the security of the process.

A number of 47 polling places will be established for voters from the localities situated on the left side of the Nistru, from Bender municipality and some of the villages of Căușeni district for the February 24 elections. Twenty-two polling places will be available in single-member constituency No. 47, Camenca, Râbnița, Dubăsari and Grigoriopol towns and 25 polling places in single-member constituency No. 48, Slobozia town and Tiraspol and Bender municipalities.
