Several parties will go on a march in Chisinau on May 1, on the occasion of the International Workers’ Day. This year, the National Confederation of Trade Unions gave up holding the traditional meeting, arguing that the event coincides with the marches mounted by political parties and there is a risk of certain provocations. The trade unionists postponed the event to June 7, when the Trade Unionist’s Day will be marked in Moldova for the sixth consecutive year, IPN reports.
The Party of Socialists announced that it will stage a series of events on the International Workers’ Day. At 09.30, a March of Unity and Social Dignity will go from Renasterii Nationale Blvd. (the Circus) towards Banulescu Bodoni St and will stop in the square of the National Opera House “Maria Biesu”, where there will be held a meeting. A concert titled “I Love Moldova” will be given in the same place starting at 11.00.
The Party of Communists informed the local authorities that it will mount a solidarity march against the current government. It will start at 10.00 at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, from where the column will go to the Great National Assembly Square.
The International Workers’ Day was instituted in 1889 and is marked in most of the countries. For the salary-earners of Moldova, this day is a nonworking day.
