A new Broadcasting Code is needed in Moldova as the current one is outdated. Such an opinion was stated in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
Corneliu Mihalache, a member of the parliamentary commission for culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media, said a new Broadcasting Code is needed because the old one is outdated. “The draft new code is based more on the European directives and, even if it is no focused on our realities in parts, has a vision of the future,” stated the MP. According to him, the bill should be approved in the first reading by the legislature as a first step.
Media expert Ion Bunduchi said that if the current code had been good, it wouldn’t have had over 100 amendments so far. “We held a number of conferences that involved international experts to see what we should modify and when we saw how many things we had to amend, we reached the conclusion that we must make another code,” he stated. The media expert noted that the authors of the bill wanted to harmonize the views of all the parties in the broadcasting sector.
Artur Cozma, a member of the Broadcasting Coordination Council, expressed his conviction that the new code will be swiftly adopted by Parliament in the first reading and will be then transmitted to European institutions appraisal. The new law could be passed until the parliamentary elections. “The code contains many moments that later can be put into practice based on new regulations that should be worked out by the BCC. So, we decided not to develop many details and to leave this to the discretion of the BCC,” stated Artur Cozma.
