A new batch of rails has arrived in Moldova to repair railway lines

A new batch of rails for the capital repair of Moldova's railway lines has arrived in the Free International Port of Giurgiulesti. A ship carrying 3100 tons of rails arrived from Kazakhstan, IPN reports.

The design and rehabilitation works on the Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulești railway section, with a total length of 233 km, are being carried out by the Kazakh company Temirzhol Zhondeu, the railway company said.

The Moldovan railways restructuring project, worth more than €150 million, aims to improve the railway infrastructure and modernize rolling stock in order to increase the efficiency and safety of rail services along the Southern railway corridor.

Funding is provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union.

The first set of tracks from the Republic of Kazakhstan arrived in Moldova last July.
