A. Diordita St may become pedestrian area

The Chisinau administration aims to create a permanent pedestrian area, not only for Saturdays and Sundays, as initially planned. The project may be implemented together with an economic entity. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca Monday said that A. Diordita St may become pedestrian area from May 1 already, Info-Prim Neo reports. The area is to be laid out by the economic entity. “It seems a realistic project for the warm period of the year, especially because there is no public transport. The street is used by pedestrians, but should become a permanent pedestrian area. It is evident that the economic entity will want to place a certain type of advisements, but there shouldn’t be too many. We should better allocate money from the municipal budget than spoil things this way,” said the mayor. He also said that if this project is successful, they will extend the pedestrian area. If an ungrounded parking garage is built under the Great National Assembly Square, the square may also become pedestrian. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said the idea is achievable as the companies based on A. Diordita St and the people living there have other access ways, and the street can be easily transformed into pedestrian. Traffic on Alexandru Diordita St is limited.
