A chance for lymphoma-affected people
The lymphoma-affected people have now the chance to improve their life and to get completely cured, thanks to a preparation that recently appeared in Moldova.
Head of Haematology and Oncology Cathedra of the University of Medicine and Pharmacology “N. Testemiteanu”, university professor, Ion Corcimaru, told Info-Prim Neo that this preparation treats over 85% of patients and is considered by specialists as a very efficient drug. “MabThera” by the Swiss Company “Hoffman-La Roche ltd” is being administered in Moldova since last year too. This drug, Corcimaru says, shows very good results if it is combined with chemotherapy. More than 85% of the patients get cured, while in case of remission, it lasts twice as long as in case this medicine is not used.
According to Corcimaru, lymphoma is a serious form of cancer of the lymphocytes, also known as white blood cells, which annually affects in Moldova 170-180 persons of different ages, including 7-8 children. This disease holds about half of the number of cancers of the blood system and develops when lymphocytes, for unknown causes, suffer a process of uncontrolled growth. Professor Corcimaru says that there are 14 types of lymphomas – aggressive and indolent, for which different methods of treatment are being worked out.
Over 2,000 lymphoma-affected persons are under supervision of the Oncology Institute of Moldova at present. Several patients got completely cured after administering “MabThera” drug.
