A group of representatives of civil society and residents of Chisinau municipality called on Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin to take under control the criminal cases started against activist Iurie Draniceru, who is accused of hooliganism and gun bearing. In a news conference at IPN, people who support Draniceru said that seven criminal cases were opened against him in only half a year, all by order, IPN reports.
Leader of the public organization “My dear town” Vitalie Vozian said that on January 30, Iurie Draniceru was put under arrest for 30 days for hooliganism, by a decision of the Rascani Court. The activist’s lawyer appealed the decision to the Chisinau Appeals Court. But on February 10, the Court upheld the decision of the first court. Most of the seven criminal cases were started by prosecutor Nicu Sendrea and this is dubious, showing that he acts by order.
Costumer rights protection expert Tatiana Gogu said that Iurie Draniceru is one of the most active citizens of the municipality. He takes an active part in the protests staged against the wrongdoings of the authorities. “Iurie is like a bone in the necks of those who enrich themselves by stealing public property. These cases are fabricated with the aim of shutting him up,” she stated.
The participants in the conference also said that Iurie Draniceru helped a lot of people when their rights were violated. Jurist Larisa Turcan said that Iurie Draniceru assisted an elderly man to get back his house after he was evicted for forged debts. Zinaida Feclistov said Iurie Draniceru helped her to stop the illegal construction of attic-like apartments.
The people said they will go to the European Court of Human Rights in order to set Iurie Draniceru free.
