The state of emergency declared in the Transnistrian region in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic was extended until May 15, IPN reports.

The Transnistrian administration also declared April 28, 29 and 30 nonworking days for public sector employees by keeping their salaries.

The state of emergency in the region was declared for the period between March 17 and April 5 and was then extended until May 1. It was now extended the second time.

The Transnistrian authorities reported 357 infections with COVID-19 and 16 deaths from the novel coronavirus so far.

Over 40 petrol stations do not have diesel fuel in stock, and the available reserves of this fuel cover consumption for approximately 7.6 days. The information was confirmed for IPN by the press service of the National Energy Regulatory Agency.

At the same time, gasoline stocks are sufficient for about 15.8 days of consumption.

Last week, the Government instituted a 30-day state of alert in the energy sector, due to the risk of a fuel deficit, especially diesel. The authorities also approved the establishment of mandatory minimum stocks and the limitation of diesel export and re-export. These measures come after the disruption of regional supply chains.

Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for Tuesday. According to the forecast, the scorching weather will persist throughout the entire country, with maximum temperatures reaching +33 degrees Celsius and above, reports IPN.

The Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring announces that, over wide areas, the maximum temperatures will fluctuate between +33 and +35 degrees Celsius, and will occasionally reach +36 degrees. The institution specifies that the warning and the corresponding map can be updated depending on the evolution and intensity of the weather phenomena.

The heatwave at the beginning of August is caused by the intrusion of a warm air mass from northern Africa, which has led to a rise in temperatures across the entire country.

Under these conditions, the authorities recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun and outdoor activities between 11:00 AM-06:00 PM, sufficient fluid intake, and limiting intense physical effort throughout the day.
