All the types of diesel fuel and gasoline were cheapened by 1 leu. The price of liquefied petroleum gas was reduced by 0.10 lei. The new prices were posted at a number of gas stations on April 22, IPN reports.

A liter of diesel fuel now costs 13.12 lei, as opposed to 14.12 lei until now. The price of a liter of gasoline of type “95” is 15.47 lei, as against 16.47 lei a day ago. The liquefied petroleum gas costs 9.67 lei, in contrast to 9.77 lei earlier.

Since March 2019, fuel sellers have set the retail prices of the main fuels and liquefied petroleum gas by themselves, within an annual markup of 10%. Following rises in fuel prices this January, the authorities announced that the price ceiling setting method will be restored. After this announcement, the fuel prices were decreased for several times. The last time, at the start of April, the diesel fuel was cheapened on average by 0.55 lei, the gasoline by 0.25 lei, while the liquefied petroleum gas by 0.10 lei.

Authorities urge the population to reduce energy consumption during peak hours

Citizens are urged to use electricity responsibly and, as much as possible, to avoid using high-consumption appliances between the hours of 06:00 PM and 11:00 PM. The authorities’ recommendation comes in the context of pressures on the regional energy market, generated by the decline in electricity production in Romania, reports IPN.

SA Energocom specifies that the electricity needs of the Republic of Moldova are fully covered. However, during peak consumption hours, it may be necessary to purchase additional quantities from regional markets, where energy is, as a rule, more expensive.

In Romania, an energy alert has been instituted for 30 days, due to the reduction of electric power production, caused by the low flow of the Danube. Romanian authorities warn that the situation puts pressure on regional markets, may increase the need for imports, and can generate price fluctuations.

According to Energocom, 9,523 MWh of electrical energy were contracted for August 1st. Out of this volume, 33.05% comes from local and eligible renewable sources, 51.68% from bilateral import contracts, 13.85% from the Day-Ahead Market in Romania, through OPCOM and BRM, and 1.42% is produced by thermal power plants.

To alleviate pressure on the system and peak-time acquisition costs, consumers are encouraged to use washing machines, clothes dryers, electric boilers, and other appliances during the day, when energy consumption is lower.

The Diaspora Days 2026 begin on Monday, August 3, and will take place throughout August under the theme “Wherever we are, Moldova unites us!”. The program includes events for young people, professionals, leaders of diaspora associations, and citizens interested in getting involved in the country’s development, reports IPN.

The activities are organized by the Diaspora Relations Office within the State Chancellery, and some of these will take place in a hybrid format, to facilitate the participation of Moldovans settled abroad.

The first activity on the schedule is the inauguration of the exhibition “Bessarabian Authors in the World”, on August 3, at the National Library of the Republic of Moldova. On August 4, at the Government House, the event “Youth Talk: Young People Change the World” will take place, and on August 7, at the Palace of the Republic, the Diaspora Forum is scheduled – the central event of this year’s edition.

The Diaspora Forum will bring together citizens of the Republic of Moldova settled abroad, representatives of public authorities, development partners and leaders of diaspora communities. The discussions will focus on the involvement of the diaspora in the European integration process, strengthening communities outside the country and developing partnerships with their places of origin.

The program will continue on August 15 with the Diaspora Cup, organized at Dinamo Stadium. As part of the Diaspora Days, art and heritage exhibitions will also be organized, along with a fair of folk craftsmen and informational stands of public institutions and development partners.
