The body of poet, prose writer, playwright and essayist Andrei Strâmbeanu will be laid at “Sfânta Teodora de la Sihla” Church at 5pm on August 6 for those who knew him to bid farewell to him. The funeral will take place starting at 10am on August 7, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research stated in an obituary signed by Minister Lilia Pogolșa, IPN reports.
“A great personality who always pleaded for the spiritual and moral values that found refection in his essays and speeches. A famous name of the Romanian literature who struggled for the integrity and ideal of the union. […] We express our profound regret and offer our condolences to the close ones. Bright light and eternal peace, Andrei Strâmbeanu!” says the obituary.
Andrei Strâmbeanu was born in Fântâna Albă village of Bălți County, currently Edineț district, on August 25, 1934.
Among his most famous works are “White Well” (poetry, 1963), “Throw Me into the Sky” (children’s stories 1965), “The Bride” (stories, 1967), “Counterpoint” (anthology, 2004), “Poems with Wormwood Taste (2015), etc.
As author of poems, he cooperated with composers Mihai Dolgan, Constantin Rusnac, Eugen Doga, Valentin Dînga etc. His prose was translated into Finish, French, Lithuanian, Armenian, Georgian, Estonian, Hebrew. His plays were put on at theaters in Moldova and Germany.
He sat on Moldova’s Parliament in 1998-2001.
Andrei Strâmbeanu was awarded the medal “Mihai Eminescu” in 1997, the Order of the Republic in 2011, the National Award of the Republic of Moldova and the Award “I. L. Caragiale” for dramaturgy of the Romanian Academy in 2008. In 1979, 1981, 2001, 2002 and 2004, he was a laureate of the National Dramaturgy Contest.
