People who plan to bathe in water basins, according to the tradition on Epiphany, must prepare their body before going into water and dipping should be gradual. Rescuers warn that dipping is allowed only in specially arranged places, equipped with wooden stairs and only under the supervision of specialists, IPN reports.
On the eve of Epiphany, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations carried out demonstration activities at the Rescue Station No. 7, on Rascani Lake in the capital city. There, specialists simulated the dipping process and explained situations of risk and how they can be overcome.
To avoid cardiac arrest, the body should be prepared before entering the water and the immersion should be gradual. Stay in cold water should not be longer than 10 seconds. After getting out, the body should be wiped with a towel and the person will put on warm clothes and drink hot liquids.
Immersion in cold water is forbidden for people with respiratory diseases, chronic lung diseases, cardiovascular diseases as there are risks of developing serious complications.
Also, rescuers warn that the people should not crowd on the ice, immerse under water directly from the ice, but also bathe drunk. For the safety of children, these should not be immersed in cold water.
On January 19, old-style Orthodox Christians will celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, a day when according to tradition people dip in cold water.
