The Superior Council of Prosecutors has nominated Ion Munteanu for the post of Prosecutor General after conducting interviews today. The nomination is subject to approval by the President.

Ion Munteanu, who is the acting Prosecutor General, scored the highest, getting 9.21 points. He was followed by Octavian Iachimovschi, Anticorruption Deputy Chief Prosecutor, with 8.80 points, and prosecutor Alexandru Cernei with 7.92.

The Council took note that Muntean successfully passed the external pre-vetting procedure.

The appointment of a Prosecutor General is one of the prerequisites for Moldova to be able to start accession negotiations with the EU, which is supposed to happen in late June.

The post of Prosecutor General became vacant after Alexandru Stoianoglo was first suspended and eventually fired on “unsatisfactory performance” grounds. The post was taken over by Dumitru Robu and then by Ion Munteanu, acting as caretakers.

The Council took note that Muntean successfully passed the external pre-vetting procedure.

The price of standard diesel is nearing 32 lei per liter. The National Agency for Energy Regulation has announced a price increase of 89 bani for Thursday, one of the largest in recent times, reports IPN.

Thus, a liter of diesel will be sold at the pump for no more than 31.89 lei. At the same time, 95 octane gasoline will cost at most 30.62 lei per liter, an increase of 8 bani.

The government has instituted a state of alert in the energy sector for 30 days, due to the risk of a fuel deficit. The measure comes in the context where the cessation of oil deliveries from Kazakhstan to the Black Sea affects the supply of the Petromidia refinery in Romania, the main fuel supplier of the Republic of Moldova.
