There will be a maximum of 12 names on the presidential ballot paper

Independent candidate Tudor Ulianovschi has been allocated #10 on the preliminary ballot for the October 20 presidential election. He will be followed by Igor Munteanu, of the Unity and Welfare Coalition, and independent Natalia Morari. This was decided following a random draw conducted Friday, on the last day the Central Electoral Commission accepted signature lists from presidential hopefuls.

Of the 13 successfully registered presidential endorsement groups, only one – supporting the jurist and politician Alexandru Arseni – failed to submit lists with enough signatures to the election authority, which disqualifies him from the race.

To date, the CEC registered four presidential candidates, as the other submissions are pending examination.

The Republic of Moldova is no longer just a country of origin and transit for victims of human trafficking, but is increasingly becoming a destination for the labor exploitation of migrants. The International Center “La Strada” draws attention to the fact that this change requires the adaptation of mechanisms for preventing and combating human trafficking, reports IPN.

In the context of World Day against Trafficking in Persons, marked annually on July 30, the organization points out that among the main issues are the lack of efficient systems for monitoring working conditions, the late identification of exploitation cases, and insufficient intervention in support of the victims.

The organization mentions that, just in the last year, nearly 50 citizens of Uzbekistan, potential victims of labor exploitation in the construction sector, have been identified through the Hotline managed by the center.

“La Strada” urges authorities, employers, and society to treat the exploitation of migrant workers as a real and growing problem, and to strengthen measures for identifying, protecting and preventing human trafficking.
