The Second Steering Committee Meeting of the EU-funded project “EU4Borders Security – Moldova” was held today in Chișinău, bringing together representatives of project partners, beneficiaries, and relevant stakeholders.

The meeting marked the completion of the first year of implementation and provided a platform to review key results achieved in strengthening Moldova’s border management capacities in alignment with European Union and Schengen acquis standards.

Over the past year, the project has deployed expert missions across all three components, delivering specialised training, developing methodologies and regulatory recommendations. The project successfully carried out 27 expert missions involving 25 international experts, who delivered a total of 209 expert days. Four specialised training sessions were organised, strengthening the capacities of 81 border police officers. The project visibility was supported through 30 published articles, 11 visibility products, and two project videos highlighting key activities and achievements.

The Steering Committee also served as an opportunity to discuss strategic priorities for the upcoming implementation period, including planned expert missions, and the continued development of tools and frameworks to support beneficiaries’ alignment with European Union and Schengen acquis requirements.

The meeting reaffirmed the strong commitment of all partners and beneficiaries to the successful implementation of the project activities in line with its objectives and the Republic of Moldova’s broader EU integration agenda.

The Chisinau City Hall will organize, at the Vadul lui Voda Water Catchment Station, simulation exercises for managing a severe water shortage or a possible total interruption of the supply. The actions are part of the operational plan developed by the municipality in the context of the low water level in the Nistru River, IPN reports.

Mayor Ion Ceban stated that, starting at 3:00 PM, civil protection applications will be carried out, during which intervention procedures in the event of crisis situations regarding water supply in the municipality will be tested.

“These are simulations in case we have a water deficiency or a total lack of water. You have seen the fleet – 45 special vehicles, 20 tankers and hundreds of capacities. Priority will be given to kindergartens, hospitals, polyclinics and social institutions. In the first stage, water will be distributed to 75 locations across the municipality”, the mayor said at the operational meeting of municipal services.

According to Ion Ceban, the Water Capture Station has been working non-stop for two weeks to maintain water supply to Chisinau. During this period, additional work is being carried out, including the construction of a temporary dam, to maintain the water level in the station area.

The mayor explained that the Republic of Moldova depends on the flow of water released from the Novodnestrovsk dam and, subsequently, from Dubasari, as the Dniester River does not have its source on the country’s territory.

The National Energy Regulatory Agency is preparing changes to the methodologies for calculating regulated natural gas prices and distribution tariffs. The adjustments come after the amendment of the Law on Natural Gas by Parliament and concern, among other things, the method of setting prices for certain categories of consumers, IPN reports.

One of the projects provides for the modification of the methodology for calculating and applying regulated prices for the supply of natural gas to certain categories of consumers and for the supply of last resort. The new rules will allow for the emergency adjustment of prices for the II, III and IV quarters of each year, by the 25th of the month preceding the respective quarter.

The second project concerns the methodology for calculating tariffs for the natural gas distribution service. It proposes a mechanism for recognizing administrative and payroll expenses of distribution operators affiliated with the same founder, in order to avoid the cumulative recovery of these costs through tariffs.

Interested parties can submit proposals and recommendations on the projects until August 14, to the email address [email protected] or at the ANRE headquarters.
