President Maia Sandu maintains that the announcement by fugitive Ilan Shor to withdraw his social projects from Moldova is part of a broader strategy of influence promoted by the Kremlin. According to the head of state, Moscow has not changed its approach towards the Republic of Moldova, reports IPN.
“I don’t believe that Moscow is changing its attitude towards the Republic of Moldova, unfortunately. We would like to have a normal relationship and we would like to know that the Kremlin is not interfering in our internal affairs. But as we have seen in recent years, and as we have seen after the elections, the Kremlin’s attitude has not changed,” said Maia Sandu after the National Security Council meeting.
The President emphasized that this conduct does not target only the Republic of Moldova, but also other independent and sovereign states in the region. “It’s not just about the Kremlin’s attitude towards Moldova, but also towards many other independent countries. That’s why we have this plan, because we are aware that the risks do not disappear. On the contrary, they will increase, as the methods of intervention become increasingly complex,” added the head of state.
Recently, the fugitive Ilan Shor announced that he is closing all his social projects in the Republic of Moldova. He claims that the funds he was transferring into the country have been blocked, and several of his employees have been arrested. He says he can no longer continue the activities of “supporting the population,” but promises to resume them once the government changes.
