The “Nicolae Testemitanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the Republic of Moldova marks 80 years since its foundation. According to the rector of USMF, Emil Ceban, the anniversary ceremony commemorates eight decades of prodigious activity in higher medical education and in the history of an institution that has grown alongside the national health system and the entire country, reports IPN.
“The history of USMF dates back to 1945, when in a period full of challenges, out of will and faith in the future, the State Institute of Medicine in Chisinau was established. It has been 80 years in which we have trained dozens of generations of doctors, built scientific schools, served the health and lives of people”, Emil Ceban stated during the anniversary ceremony.
Present at the event, President Maia Sandu emphasized that citizens look at medicine with a lot of hope, they want a medical system that treats them with dignity and professionalism. “USMF not only trains specialists, but also strengthens the trust between people and the state – the trust that when you need help, doctors and specialists are there to assist you”, concluded the head of state.
In turn, Prince Radu of Romania expressed his admiration for the university’s activities and his support for the development of the medical institution. “These 80 years we are celebrating today are a huge part of our life and of the nation”, added the Romanian prince.
The EU Ambassador to Chisinau, Iwona Piorko, mentioned that the European community expresses congratulations to the entire academic environment, for their dedication, professionalism, and desire to learn. “It is a pleasure to celebrate today the 80th anniversary of one of the most respected academic institutions in Moldova”, added the ambassador.
“I am honored to be here with you today and to share this celebration, as you mark eight decades of essential contribution and development of the health system in the Republic of Moldova”, mentioned the acting Minister of Health, Ala Nemerenco.
The “Nicolae Testemitanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy was founded in 1945 as the State Institute of Medicine in Chișinău. Over the past 80 years, it has gone through several stages of development, adapting its study programs and institutional structure to the needs of the national health system. Currently, USMF educates students from all over the country, as well as from abroad, offering academic programs in various medical and pharmaceutical fields.
