Although there were irregularities recorded during the electoral campaign, these did not have a decisive impact on the final result of the parliamentary elections. The statement was made by the president of the Constitutional Court, after the CC meeting, during which the results of the September 28th scrutiny were confirmed and the mandates of the 101 elected deputies in the new Parliament were validated, reports IPN.
“The annulment of elections can only occur in cases of fraud that affect the outcome of the vote”, Domnica Manole mentioned.
The Constitutional Court has examined the objections filed during the electoral campaign, which targeted, among other things, the use of administrative resources, illegal electoral advertising and campaign financing. According to Domnica Manole, these cases have already been resolved through final judicial decisions.
Another aspect emphasized by the Court refers to the conclusions of national and international observers regarding hybrid attacks, which marked the electoral process. These were manifested through the distribution of false information on social networks, amplified by unauthentic accounts and tools based on artificial intelligence. Some observers attributed these actions to troll farms, coordinated by foreign state actors, including from the Russian Federation.
The Constitutional Court has issued a statement to the Parliament and recommended strengthening the competencies of authorities in regulating online platforms and establishing effective measures for protecting the information space, especially during electoral periods, but with respect for freedom of expression.
Following the validation of the parliamentary elections and the deputy mandates by the Constitutional Court, President Maia Sandu is set to convene the first meeting of the new Parliament. This must take place within a maximum of 30 days from the date of the elections, which means by October 28th.
