Parliamentary election day took place in a tense atmosphere, with some security incidents, logistical difficulties, and high-level political interference. These findings were presented by election observers from the Moldovan Lawyers’ Union at a press conference at IPN.
The head of the observation mission and the president of the Union of Lawyers of Moldova, Maxim Lebedinschi, noted that the parliamentary election day combined, overall, the proper technical functioning of the electoral process with a tense atmosphere, but which did not affect the validity of the electoral vote.
Maxim Lebedinschi emphasized that several bomb threats, although false, disrupted the voting process and created panic among the voters who were about to cast their votes at the polling stations. According to the president of the Union of Jurists, this can be considered an indirect form of discouraging citizens’ participation in the electoral process.
Additionally, the Election Observation Mission of the Union of Lawyers from Moldova points out that voters from the Transnistrian region encountered obstacles due to the relocation of five polling stations and the lack of alternative transportation to reach those voting sections. Observers qualify this situation as a limitation in exercising the right to vote.
