The sterilization department of the Emergency Medicine Institute has been equipped with modern equipment, designed to improve the quality of medical procedures. The Minister of Health, Ala Nemerenco, stated that the old sterilization devices did not meet current standards. According to the minister, the new tools will contribute both to increasing patient safety and to protecting the health of medical staff, reports IPN.
At the inauguration event, the minister said most of the appliances previously used, especially in small district hospitals, came from the former Soviet Union and were difficult to use by medical staff.
Ala Nemerenco also stressed that a modern level of sterilization will reduce nosocomial infections, which accompany surgical interventions all over the world. At the same time, the new equipment will reduce postoperative and postdiagnostic complications.
The Director of the Emergency Medicine Institute, Diana Manea, emphasized that investments in the sterilization system represent an essential contribution to the improvement of medical care quality. “By modernizing and centralizing sterilization processes, we manage, primarily, to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections, but also to increase our patients’ confidence that the entire medical act, especially the surgical one, is carried out under maximum safety conditions,” said the director of the EMI.
The sterilization department of the Emergency Medicine Institute has been equipped with modern equipment for steam cleaning, a washing machine, packaging equipment, a sterilizer, and cabinets for transporting and storing sterile instruments, as well as a water purification system through osmosis.
In addition to the Emergency Medicine Institute, 27 public health institutions have been equipped with modern sterilization equipment. These include the Mother and Child Institute, the “Diomid Gherman” Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, the “Timofei Moșneaga” Republican Clinical Hospital, as well as several district hospitals, including the Soroca District Hospital “A. Prisacari”.
The Director of the Soroca District Hospital, Ella Ursu, emphasized the importance of the sterilization department, which she considers strategic and absolutely necessary for any medical institution. “Any institution that provides medical services must ensure them not only qualitatively, but also safely,” Ursu concluded.
