According to the preliminary official data made public after counting 99% of the vote, the Communist Party’s candidate Igor Dodon won the elections for the mayoralty of Chisinau municipality with 52% of the poll. The Liberal Party’s candidate, current mayor Dorin Chirtoaca polled 43% of the ballot, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Chisinau District Electoral Council. Valentina Buliga gained 2.01% of the vote in Chisinau, Mihai Godea – 0.8%, Sergiu Coropceanu – 0.29%, Radu Busila – 0.24%. The data covering the whole municipality will be announced during the day. With 90% of the votes for the Chisinau Municipal Council counted, the PCRM won 49.9% of the vote (27 seats of councilor, according to the website alegeri.md), the PL – 29.8% (16 seats), the PLDM – 12.8% (7 seats), the PD – 2.7% (1 seat). The turnout of voters in the municipality of Chisinau was 56.47% of the persons eligible to vote. Commenting on the results of the exit poll yesterday evening, Igor Dodon said: “Those who are rejoicing now, like Dorin Geoana and others, will see different official results tomorrow.” He made allusion to the presidential elections in Romania, where the exit poll gave the victory to Mircea Geoana, while the official results showed the elections were won by Traian Basescu. According to the final exit poll results, Dorin Chirtoaca polled 53.1% of the vote, while Igor Dodon – 40.9%.
