Of the total population of the Republic of Moldova who declared their religion in the 2014 population census (2 611 800), 96.8% said they are Orthodox Christians, an increase of 1.3 percentage points on 2004, IPN reports.
Among the people of another denomination, the Baptists (Evangelical Christian Baptists) represent 1.0%, Jehovah’s Witnesses – 0/7%, Pentecostals – 0.4%, while Adventists of the Seventh Day – 0.3%.
The Catholics represent 0.1%.
The number of persons who said they are atheists or agnostics decreased by 1.2 percentage points from 2004, to 0.2%.
As many as 193,000 persons didn’t declare their religion. This is 6.9% of the population.
The census results were presented in a news conference on March 31, almost three years of the collection of data.
