91 of 4 000 depositors of Universalbank have not yet got all money
The process of liquidating the commercial bank Universalbank goes according to plan, the governor of the National Bank of Moldova Dorin Dragutanu said in a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
”Immediately after the withdrawal of the license of Universalbank, the liquidator named by the central bank paid sums totaling 50,000 lei to all the depositors – private individuals. Last week, it was decided to pay another 50,000 lei to the depositors who have not received all the money. After this money is distributed, there will remain 91 private individuals who will have to wait to be paid back their deposits of 30.6 million lei,” stated Dorin Dragutanu.
When the license was withdrawn, about 4 000 persons had deposits at Universalbank. “Of the 4 000, only 91 remained. They have large deposits, of millions of lei. The liquidator is taking all the legal measures and we are optimistic that all the private individuals will get back their deposits,” said the governor.
The National Bank withdrew the license of Universalbank and decided to initiate the forced liquidation process on February 15 for the reason that the bank was unable to repay the debts to creditors and did not meet the risk capital norms and other parameters set by the central bank.
