Illicit drugs valued at 900,000 lei were seized and two suspects were arrested following an operation carried out by the Special Cases Prosecutors’ Office.
The drugs, mainly cannabis and new psychoactive substances (NPS), were being sold online and placed in caches to be picked up by the buyers. The prosecutors held a 28-year-old Chisinau man, believed to be the leader of the criminal group, and a 22-year-old who allegedly ran the online operations.
Searches at the suspects’ homes yielded 1.5 kilograms of alpha-PVP, commonly known as “bath salts”, among other drugs. Based on records made by the suspects, it’s believed they planted drugs in 8,660 caches this year alone. The drugs and paraphernalia were being smuggled into Moldova from Ukraine.
The investigation continues to identify other suspects and circumstances.
