The technological and refrigerating equipment of the canteens of the Chisinau schools has been mainly used since the foundation of the institutions and is very old. Deputy director general of the Chisinau Division of Education, Youth and Sport Alexandru Fleas said 90% of the schools need new, modern equipment.

“There is no school where the equipment was fully replaced. Some of the schools have new equipment, but other equipment does not work instead. So, practically all the schools need new acquisitions,” the official stated for IPN.

It is costly to keep the old equipment functional. Every year, the Chisinau City Hall allocates by 1 million lei for improving the equipment, but this sum is not enough. “We change parts of it annually,” stated Alexandru Fleas.

In the old fridges the products spoil quicker. In the schools where the dishwashers do not work, the personnel wash the dishes by hand. A sum of about 9 million lei is needed to fully substitute the old equipment.
