University professor, Dr. Alexei Casu, senior scientific researcher of the Mathematics and Informatics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) is the 8th awardee of the “Academician Constantin Sibirschi Prize”, the highest distinction for scientific researches in the domain of mathematics in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the head of the ASM Press Centre, Tatiana Rotaru, the prize has been awarded to the receiver for the 2006 year of activity, for the series “Radicals and torsions in modules’ category”, which includes 3 books and 11 scientific articles. The series of works refer to the theory of radicals and torsions in the modules’ category, a very actual research direction in the modern algebra, having multiple applications in most diverse domains. “Academician Constantin Sibirschi Prize” has been instituted in 1999 by the Nongovernmental organisation bearing the same name, managed by the grandson of the great mathematician, Val Sibirsky, physicist and businessmen, citizen of the USA. The main condition for the participation in the contest for the “Academician Constantin Sibirschi Prize”, worth USD 1,000 is the high level of the research and the presented results, which are determined by experts abroad. In the case of Alexei Casu, the expertise of his works has been operated in the Kiev National University, at the proposal of the Scientific Council of the ASM Institute of Mathematics and Informatics. Academician Constantin Sibirschi, a prominent mathematician and researcher was born on January 8, 1928. His scientific activity has been dedicated especially to the study of differential equations and dynamic systems. He published over 140 scientific articles and 5 monographs, 2 of which were translated abroad.
