Trees and tree seeds were planted on a total area of 85 hectares during the first day of the National Forestation Campaign on November 13, IPN reports.
In particular, there were planted 98,000 young trees and 4,480 kilograms of acorns.
The Ministry of Environment stated in a press release that forest conservation is among its top priorities in the next years. “The world leaders signed a declaration pledging to stop forest loss by 2030 and reverse the trend towards expanding forests”, said the Ministry, referring to a major deal reached at the recent COP26 climate summit.
One of the goals of Environment Minister Iuliana Cantaragiu is to plant at least 100,000 hectares of forests in the next 10 years.
