$80M for Moldova's local roads

The World Bank will offer 80 million dollars to rehabilitate local roads in Moldova. This was announced by a Government's press release following a meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Alex Kremer, World Bank Country Manager for Moldova, IPN reports.

“The two officials noted the dynamic nature of the bilateral relationship and the opportunities to consolidate cooperation between the Government and the World Bank”, says the press release.

Pavel Filip said that it was “extremely important” for the government to gain back the trust of Moldova's development partners, and that the unblocking of external assistance would spur the reform agenda.

The interlocutors also discussed technical aspects related to the preparation and launch of a number of WB-funded projects. In particular, Alex Kremer remarked the signing of an agreement to fund the rehabilitation of 300 kilometers of local roads, to the amount of 80 million dollars. The agreement is to be signed and ratified by the Moldovan authorities.

Other issues discussed concerned the progress of the projects to reform and modernize the fiscal system and the energy sector, and preparations for a new budget-support project in the eventuality of a renewed IMF agreement.
