80 Council of Europe monitors oversee referendum abroad

The Council of Europe sent 80 short-term monitors to supervise the constitutional referendum at about 40 of the 78 polling places established abroad, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Council of Europe. Teams consisting of two monitors work in 11 countries: Belgium – 1 team, Czech Republic – 1, Greece – 3, France – 2, Germany – 3, Italy – 14, Portugal – 3, Romania – 6, Russia – 4, Spain – 2, and Ukraine – 1. The delegation is coordinated by the NGOs Promo-LEX and “Mostenitorii” (“Heirs”). The initiative is part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe Democracy Support Program. A report on the preliminary conclusions and findings will be made public on September 6. A final report will be available in two weeks.
