80 000 kg of electronic waste collected within E-recycling project

More than 80 000 kg of electronic waste have been collected during a year since the launch of the E-recycling project. A number of 50 electronic waste collection events were staged all over the country in the period. There were set up 15 fixed specialized points, IPN reports.

“The waste is taken to the storehouse and is subject to the first selection. It is then loaded onto trucks and taken to a processing factory in Germany, which this year celebrates 150 years of work,” the co-founder of E-recycling Timur Efremov said in the festivity held to mark one year of the launch of the project. On this occasion, a series of activities for children and grownups were held in the central park of Chisinau.

“Our goal is to inform the population about the danger and noxiousness of electronic waste if this reaches an ordinary waste dump because they decay during hundreds and thousands of years or do not decay at all,” stated Timur Efremov.

E-recycling is aimed at educating the population on separate collection of electronic and electrical waste and at organizing a system for collecting such waste from the residents of Chisinau, business entities, state institutions, etc. The project was launched by the Chisinau City Hall in cooperation with Recwaste SRL.
