771m lei spent irrationally on road repair

A study carried out at the suggestion of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime and the State Construction Inspectorate shows that most of the road repair works performed in 2007-2009 were of a poor quality and did not meet the norms stipulated in the projects. In a communique quoted by Info-Prim Neo, the Center says that it started to check how the public money and loans granted under state guarantee were used in constructing or repairing national roads. A sum of 771 million lei was allocated from the state budget through the State Road Administration for repairing the national roads in 2007-2009. This money was used to repair the roads Chisinau – Leuseni, Rezina – Calarasi, Stefan-Voda – Palanca, Chisinau – Hancesti, Ustia – Molovata, Mihailovca – Sagaidac – Valea Perjii. The Center says that even if large amounts of money was invested, the condition of the national roads remains deplorable. The preliminary results of the examination of concrete samples show that the rehabilitation projects do not meet the real regime and condition of using the roads. Consequently, more money is needed to remove the defects that appeared meanwhile. The Center started a legal case over the execution of non-qualitative repair works on the Mihailovca – Sagaidac – Valea Perjii road. The works were performer by the contractor Speranta SRL and cost 17,669,300 lei.
