The first trolleybuses were put on routes in Chisinau 75 years ago. On October 12, 1949, the first six MTB-82 trolleybuses began to run on the main artery of the city, currently Ştefan cel Mare şi Sfânt, Blvd, IPN reports.
The Chisinau Electric Transport Company said that the initiative to launch trolleybus routes on the streets of the capital city was an important step towards the modernization of public transport, offering residents a faster and more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional means of transport. At present, more than 2,500 employees contribute both to the smooth running of the company and to the modernization of public transport. In recent years, the company has modernized its infrastructure and fleet of vehicles.
Between 2020 and 2024, 145 new trolleybuses were purchased. The transport units are equipped with air conditioning, ramps for people with disabilities, low floor, surveillance cameras, bactericidal recirculators and USB sockets.
Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban thanked the employees of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company for their patience, dedication and professionalism. The company’s longest-serving employees, who have been working at the company for more than 40 or even 50 years, were awarded diplomas.
