The Chisinau Municipal Council decided to earmark 700,000 lei for the enterprise Chisinau Quarry to be reopened. The money was allocated by a draft decision to amend the 2019 municipal budget. On June 18 this year, the Chisinau Quarry was disconnected from the supply of electricity owing to debts. The water that accumulates there is not pumped out. In the July 5 meeting of the CMC, the enterprise’s director Sergiu Lungu warned that the accumulated water poses risks to the city’s security, especially to the people who live in Râșcani district, IPN reports.

Sergiu Lungu also said that calcareous stone for building works is extracted from the quarry, but the process was blocked by the groundwater that entered the quarry. There are quarry areas that are in the process of destruction and pose a threat, like the part near Calea Orheiului St and that situated in the perimeter between the streets Florilor, Studenților and Moscova. “The water influences a lot the stability of support poles,” stated the director.

He also said that after the power supply was disconnected, the water stopped to be pumped out and during the next three weeks this could flood the pumping station that is old and needs to be immediately changed. The enterprise’s debts for electricity exceed 400,000 lei, while its annual revenues are of almost 500,000 lei. Therefore, the enterprise cannot extract stone and can only maintain the water removal process.

Under the decision to amend the 2019 municipal budget, the Remodeling of the Public Space Project will have its budget increased by nearly 545,000 lei. A sum of 5 million lei will go to reconstruct the accumulation lake in “Valea Morilor” Park. Also, the spending for repair works in hospitals was raised by 4.5 million, but the allowances for equipment were decreased by 2.4 million lei and for municipal public health services by 2.1 million lei. 560,000 lei was allocated for completing the works to install the elevator in the hallway of the City Hall.
