The situation of the water meters in the municipal housing sector is disastrous, says Constantin Becciev, director of the water supplier SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC). Joint commissions composed of specialists of the municipal housing sector and of the ACC check about 200 apartments every day. The checks show that many consumers do not declare the volumes registered by the meters, the examination period of many water meters has expired, while some of them are not sealed. The examinations also show that 70% of the meters do not meet the metrological standards and norms, Constantin Becciev said at Monday’s meeting of the Chisinau City Hall, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to the water supplier, the losses and unregistered consumption of water make up 40% of the volumes of supplied water. Becciev considers that the checks are carried out too slowly. Only 32 apartment buildings were checked during the first week. The municipal housing sector includes over 1,700 buildings. “More groups of checkers are needed to finish the works until autumn,” the ACC director said. The dwellers whose water meters are defective are obliged to remove the faults during a month, under a report drawn up by the commission. Otherwise, they will be penalized according to the law and the Code of Administrative Offences.
