70% of Vadul lui Voda beach is flooded, but the local waterworks is working fine. “If the level of water rises higher than 17 meters, then we’ll have to restrict access in the area”, stated Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca during a visit on the scene, Info-Prim Neo reports. “It is necessary to inspect the pumping unit, the beach and the camps, to make sure people will have water and there are no problems”, said the Mayor. The level of water in the Nistru River is 14.20 meters in Vadul lui Voda, while the usual level is 9 meters. The risk of flooding will appear if the level reaches 18 meters. Constantin Becciev, the director of the water utility Apa-Canal Chisinau, said the situation in Vadul lui Voda was under control and that specialized services were ready to deal with it. “Our Ukrainian colleagues told us there is a flood wave coming, but it isn’t as dangerous as the previous years. We think the level of water at the pumping unit might reach 16-16.5 meters, which isn’t a danger”, he said. The pumping unit’s limit level is 21 meters.
