7 men suspected of armed robberies in Chisinau and Ungheni
Seven young men have been arrested, suspected of being members of a gang specialized in armed robbery. They are accused of robbing several exchange offices, slot machine houses and private enterprises, threatening their victims with a gun and physically attacking them.
Adrian Jovmir, spokesman of the General Police Commissariat, told Info-Prim Neo that the suspects are aged between 20 and 30. Five of them are from Hancesti district and 2 from Dubasari. It’s thought they committed 5 armed robberies in Chisinau and 2 thievish attacks in Ungheni in April-May 2011.
After searching their houses, the police seized a molded pistol, a gas pistol and 11cartridges, a hunting rifle, binoculars, gloves, 11 cell phones and various cards fro them, gold and silver jewelry, 3 laptops and other goods.
According to the police, the suspects operated at night. They threatened their victims with a gun, beat them cruelly and stole their money. From their prey, four of the bandits bought Audi and BMW cars. The vehicles have been seized as well and will be used as evidence by the prosecution.
The young men are being investigated under charges of grave robbery. Prosecutors are gathering evidence to prove their involvement in other similar crimes. If the suspects are found guilty, they will be sentenced to 8-15 years in jail.
