A 69-year-old pensioner from Chisinau's suburban village of Tohatin was knifed to the left chest by his own wife during a family fight yesterday. Suffering open head injury, the victim is now in coma receiving care at the Emergency Hospital. An 80-year-old female pedestrian was struck by a Mitsubishi car, sustaining brain concussion and fractures of the knee bones. Over the past 24 hours the Chisinau Emergency Service responded to 755 calls, including 85 cases of trauma, 51 cases of acute viroses, and 7 brain strokes. Yesterday was the first day without a single mumps report.
