The National Army’s explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units responded to 14 calls in February, defusing a total of 67 explosive devices and 5,185 cartridges of different caliber in various parts of the country, the Ministry of Defense said in a press release.
EOD personnel responded to calls in the districts of Ștefan Vodă, Fălești, Telenești, Orhei, Bălți, Cahul, Căușeni and Ungheni.
The largest amount, 47 explosives and 4,319 cartridges, were found in a field in Răscăieți village, Ștefan Vodă.
All the munitions, dating to the World War 2, were disposed of in conditions of maximum safety.
The Ministry urges members of the public to avoid approaching, touching or otherwise tampering with finds that look like undetonated munitions and report them to the local authorities immediately.
