67% of Moldovans support reduction in number of MPs

Some 67% of the Moldovans consider the number of MPs should be reduced from 101 to 61, while 66% are for recalling the MPs who do not appropriately fulfil their duties, reveals an opinion poll presented by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova on January 29, IPN reports.

74% of the respondents support the holding of the referendum on the annulment of the parliamentary immunity of MPs, 13% are against, while 13% abstained. Also, three in four respondents support the initiative to make a law that would oblige the MPs who leave their parliamentary group to vacate the seat. 11% are against, while 14% haven’t formed an opinion about this.

In another development, asked how they would vote if a referendum on the entry into the European Union or the Eurasian Economic Union was held next Sunday, 40% of those polled said they would vote for entry into the EU, while 42% said they would vote for entry into the EEU. 7% would not take part in the vote, while 11% could not state their opinion.

Asked if they would vote for or against Moldova’s entry into NATO, 59% said they would vote against, while each forth person said they would vote for. 7% would not vote.

The poll was carried out in 81 localities, except for the Transnistrian region, during January 4 – 19, 2019 and covered a sample of 1,179 respondents. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3%.
