There are 66 summer camps for children operating this summer in Chisinau, of which 4 are placed outside the city. According to mayoral plans, over 25 thousand students from primary and secondary education institutions in Chisinau will spend their holidays in the summer camps placed in the capital. The expenses of the municipal budget for the maintenance of these camps will rise to approximately 22 million lei. The authorities aim to increase the number children to be accommodated in day camps as well as leisure camps by 400 compared to last year. 25% of the total number of tickets will be allocated free of charge to children from underprivileged families, as well as vocational and boarding schools. For the rest, 20% of the cost of the ticket will be paid for by the parents, the rest will be provided by the municipal budget, as in previous years. The ticket for the summer camps cost 625 lei, while leisure and recovery camps will cost from 1000 to 1300 lei. In additon, 195 thousand lei will be allocated from the local budget to organise summer camps for children in Sergheevca, Ukraine. The beneficiaries of these camps will be children from underprivileged families. The Government also promises to finance the summer camps for approximately 60% of the primary and secondary school children from the republic, aiming to spend 75 thousand lei that will provide for the leisure programme of the summer camps. In 2006, of 450 thousand children from the republic, with ages between 7 and 16 years, 53% spent summer in camps.
