65.7% of residents of Chisinau are absolutely sure they will go to polls on November 5

More than half of the citizens of the municipality of Chisinau or 65.7% of the respondents of a poll commissioned by WatchDog.MD and carried out by CBS Research are absolutely sure that they will cast their ballots in the November 5 local elections. 16.3% of those surveyed said they will probably go to the polls. Slightly over 8% said they are rather sure they will go.

If mayoral elections were held in Chisinau next Sunday, most of the residents of the capital city would vote for incumbent mayor Ion Ceban. 46.8% of those interviewed from the municipality of Chisinau are ready to vote for him. If the responses only of the decided voters are taken into account, Ion Ceban would win the elections with 56.1% of the ballot.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, WatchDog.MD head Valeriu Pașa said that out of all the respondents from the municipality of Chisinau, 14.9% would vote for Lilian Carp, 4.9% for ex-deputy mayor Victor Chironda, while 3.5% - for Vasile Costiuc. The other candidates would gain 2.5% and less. If taking into account the responses of the decided voters, Ion Ceban (56.1%) would be followed by Lilian Carp with 17.9%, Victor Chironda with 5.9%, Vasile Costiuc with 4.2% of the vote. Other candidates would garner 3% and less.

The poll also shows how the persons with pro-Russian views would vote in Chisinau. 70.2% of those who are for entry into the Customs Union would vote for Ion Ceban and only 2.2% would vote for Lilian Carp. “We also examined separately those who said that they trust Vladimir Putin. We see that almost 72% of them vote for Ceban and practically nobody votes for Lilian Carp. This takes us to the conclusion that the voters with pro-Russian views from Chisinau made a clear decision as to their choice and an overwhelming majority would support Ion Ceban even in the first round of voting,” stated Valeriu Pașa.

If elections to choose members of the Chisinau Municipal Council were held next Sunday, 29.7% would vote for the PAS, 13.2% would vote for the PSRM, while 9.5% would vote for the MAN. The Chance Party would gain 4.9%, of the ballot while the PCRM – 4.3%.

Asked about the problems that concern them the most, 56.3% of those polled said the traffic jams, 36.6% said the damaged roads, while 32.5% said the absence of parking places in districts and yards of apartment buildings. 29.8% of those surveyed mentioned the absence of parking places in the center of Chisinau and dirtiness. Less than 1% of those polled said they are not concerned about something.

The poll was conducted during September 30 – October 9 and covered a representative sampling of 600 persons aged 18 and more, all citizens of the municipality of Chisinau.
