The number of children who do not attend school is three times higher than the figures provided until now by the local education divisions. The real data could be obtained owing to the information management system implemented in education with the assistance of the development partners, IPN reports.
“Until now we had the data presented by the education divisions, which showed that 150 to 200 children do not attend or abandoned school. In February, we obtained the real figures in this area and we already know that there are 600 children in such a situation. This means that not all the cases were reported at division level,” Minister of Education Maia Sandu told a news conference.
She said that owing to the information system, the Ministry of Education can monitor each child apart. Based on the data possessed by the education divisions and the local public administration, concrete solutions will be proposed in every separate case so as to bring the children back to school.
Maia Sandu noted that most of the times the children who abandon school or are absent from classes are not monitored by the parents because these are abroad or these children are from poor families and have to work alongside their parents.
