At least 60% of those who attended the assembly staged by the Democratic Party (PDM) in central Chisinau last Sunday will not vote this party because they were brought to the Great National Assembly Square by force, mayor of Capaclia village of Cantemir distrait Alexei Busioc was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel.
The mayor noted he considers the ruling party is preparing the massive rigging of the upcoming parliamentary elections and the local authorities of the second level will play an important role in this process. “The second level plays the most important role and therefore no one wants to remove it. In 1998, when counties were introduced, the central power remained without hands. They understood that a normal decentralization process started and some didn’t like it,” stated Alexei Busioc. According to him, the second administration level is reactivated only during elections. “Their goal is just to manipulate.”
Vice president of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Mihai Popșoi said the citizens on October 21 witnessed a farce, an attempt to cement the illusion of power, force and success of the Democratic Party. By this event the PDM’s image was rather damaged than improved. “Yesterday we actually witnessed a pre-campaign, a failed launch of the election campaign as the number of people and their enthusiasm clearly showed that the PDM, with all its financial and administrative resources, didn’t manage to achieve something tangible so that the people really wanted to support this people,” he stated.
Ștefan Gligor, programs director at the Center for Policies and Reforms, noted that from political and politological viewpoints, the event held on October 21 was senseless. “They added 2-3% to their negative rating and x% to the opposition as voters. What is built through intimidation, fear or threat and blackmail cannot bring political benefits. The real support derives from accomplishments and they thus try to somehow restore this trend of exhibiting economic achievements, as Lukashenko does in Belarus, on the last 100 meters,” stated Ștegan Gligor.
In the National Assembly entitled “PDM For Moldova” that was held by the party in the Great National Assembly Square on October 21, the Democratic Party agreed the principles that will form the basis of its political program during the next few years.
