60 companies aspire to “Golden Mercury” Prize

As many as 60 brand names of products and services from different areas of the national economy have applied to the Trademark of the Year 2011 contest so far, said the head of the Exhibitions and Fairs Division of the Chamber of Trade and Industry Marina Petrov, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The economic entities with a registered trademark have one more week to apply to the contest. “The contest tests the competitiveness of the Moldovan products and services based on the assessment of the trademarks by a professional jury and national consumers,” said Marina Petrov. The assessment committee includes experts of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) and higher education establishments, specialists in marketing and practitioners. The Trademark of the Year contest was launched by the Chamber of Trade and Industry in 2003 and is organized in concert with the State Agency on Intellectual Property. The award ceremony will take place within the national exhibition Made in Moldova, between January 31 and February 4, at Moldexpo. The “Golden Mercury” is the Top Prize. There are also awarded gold, silver and bronze medals. According to AGEPI, more than 11,000 international trademarks and 10,000 national trademarks have been registered in Moldova.
