If a referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union was held next Sunday, 58.5% of the population would vote in favor, while 30% would vote against, shows an opinion poll commissioned by WatchDog.MD Community and conducted by the Center for Sociological Investigations and Marketing “CBS-Research”. To the same question, 3% answered that they would not take part in the referendum, almost 7% didn’t know how to answer, while 1.6% didn’t respond, IPN reports.
According to sociologist Vasile Cantarji, of “CBS Research”, asked about the integration into the Eurasian Economic Union, 37.9% said they would vote for, 47% would vote against, 3,8% would not vote, 9% didn’t know how to answer, while 2.2% didn’t respond.
If they had to choose between integration into the EU and the Customs Union, 53.3% would vote for integration into the EU, while 27.2% would vote for integration into the Customs Union.
In an eventual referendum on entry into NATO, 33.4% of those polled would vote in favor, 52.6% would vote against, 3.8% would not take part, while over 10% didn’t know how to answer or didn’t answer.
Also, 40% of those surveyed would vote for Moldova’s union with Romania, while 50.3% would vote against. 2.1% would not take part in an eventual referendum, while over 7% didn’t know how to answer or didn’t answer.
The respondents had differing opinions about Moldova’s withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States. 18.9% of those questioned said that Moldova should definitely leave the CIS, 27.2% said Moldova should abandon the CIS if this is necessary for joining the EU, while 13% said Moldova should not withdraw from the CIS even if this will stop the accession to the EU. 17% consider Moldova should remain a member of the CIS and should not join the EU. 7.6% said that Moldova should abandon the CIS, but should not join the EU. 16.3% didn’t know how to answer or didn’t answer.
The poll was carried out during June 10-19 and covered a sample of 1,121 persons aged 18 and over. The margin of sampling error is 3%.
