Traffic police officers last Saturday and Sunday identified 56 persons who were driving or riding under the influence of alcohol. Law enforcement officials said the highest levels of alcohol concentration in the exhaled air were detected among drivers from Rezina, Orhei, Călărași and Ungheni, IPN reports.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, in Saharna village of Rezina district, a 36-year-old man, who was previously banned from driving, was caught driving with a concentration of 0.98 mg/l of alcohol vapor in the exhaled air. In Trebujeni village of Orhei district, a 37-year-old man was driving inebriated, with an alcohol concentration of 1.16 mg/l. A driver aged 23, who was pulled over in Căbăiești village of Călărași district, had a level of 0.93 mg/l of alcohol in the exhaled air. In Costuleni village of Ungheni district, two cyclists, aged 44 and 49, were caught riding in an advanced state of intoxication, with concentrations of 1.41 and 1.32 mg/l of alcohol vapor in the exhaled air.
All the cases were documented according to legal procedures. The persons caught driving a vehicle while inebriated, with a level of intoxication of 0.35 mg/l up, face a fine of 75,000 to 125,000 lei, while the fine for driving a bicycle inebriated is 20,000 to 25,000 lei.
