A moderate quake measuring 5.5-5.8 on the Richter scale occurred in Vrancea region of Romania at about 1:20am last night. The earthquake was felt in Muntenia, Moldova and southern Transylvania, the portal Cutremur.net reports.
Head of the Experimental Seismology Center of the Institute of Geology and Seismology of Chisinau Ion Ilies has told IPN that the quake occurred at a depth of 83 km. In Chisinau, the intensity was of about 4. In northern Moldova, the tremor was practically not felt.
Contacted by IPN, Liliana Puscasu, communicator of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, said the operational services reported no destructions or emergencies as a result of the quake.
The last earthquake with moderate intensity, which measured 5.8 on the Richter scale, occurred in Vrancea region on the night of September 24 this year. It was felt in Moldova, more intensely in the southern part.
According to specialists, it is the quakes measuring 7 on the Richter scale, which occur at a depth of 60-200 km, that are dangerous for life in the area in which we live.
