Some 54% of the respondents of a poll conducted by Date Inteligente SRL (iData) are for Moldova’s accession to the European Union, while 37% are against. Also, 9% of those polled didn’t provide a response to this question.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, Mihai Bologan, iData executive director, said that the number of those who are firmly convinced that Moldova should join the EU decreased slightly over the past one year and a half and this can be due to the war in Ukraine or not, but the conditions in Moldova continue to be favorable for holding a referendum that would definitely bring victory to those who support Moldova’s accession to the EU.

Some 43.6% of those surveyed are for Moldova’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, while 42.7% are against. Also, only one third of the respondents are in favor of Moldova’s withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States, 52.6% are against, while 12.5% do not have a clear opinion.

Some 43.6% of those questioned said that the Great European Assembly was the main event of May 2023. This percentage is the highest obtained to this open question so far. This shows that this event was indeed a high-profile one.

Also, 68% of those surveyed are against renaming the May 9 holiday and only 16% are for renaming this holiday as Day of Commemoration and Reconciliation for World War II Victims, while 9% prefer the Europe Day name for this holiday.

If snap parliamentary elections were held, three political parties would pass the election threshold. The Party of Action and Solidarity would gain 24.4% of the ballot (38.5% of the votes of the decided respondents), the Shor Party – 15.9% (25.1%), while the Bloc of Communists and Socialists – 15.3% (24.2%).

The Moldovans continue to trust the head of state the most. Maia Sandu is trusted by 23.7% of those interviewed, being followed by Ilan Shor with 11.5% and ex-President Igor Dodon with 10.9%.

According to the poll, the number of respondents who consider that things in Moldova go right for the first time in the past one year and a half exceeded 40%, reaching 41.2%. Also, the number of those who believe that things go wrong declined to 46.8%.

The poll covered 1,032 respondents from 373 localities of Moldova and was conducted exclusively by phone during May 23-30, 2023.
