53% of population believes economic situation can improve by combating corruption

53% of the people consider that the combating of corruption is the main factor in improving the economic situation in the country, shows a study of the Moldovans’ perception of the state of the national economy that was carried out and presented by the National Marketing Association of Moldova, IPN repots.

Other factors mentioned include: attraction of investments (13%), elimination of tax evasion (11%), reduction of public costs (7%), stimulation of private investments and the state ones (by 6%), and the VAT reduction (4%).

“Only 17% of those poled believe that the economy will grow over the next 12 months, 33% consider that it will decline, while 50% think no major changes will take place,” said Igor Melnic, chairman of the National Marketing Association.

The reforms done by the government are considered very efficient by only 0.3% of the respondents. 10.8% consider them efficient, while 45% - inefficient. Only 10% of those surveyed believe that the government is able to solve the economic problems, while 54 % said the state functionaries lack political will.
 
Compared with last year, when 32% of the respondents hoped for a better living in the future, the percentage of optimists fell to 21%. The optimism among the young people aged between 18 and 20 is much lower compared with other age categories.

The study covered a sample of 1,184 persons of different ages selected randomly. The margin of sampling error is 3.4%.
